Tattoo In Taiwan - You might think, why this header... well, my husband and I got our first tattoo done here in Taiwan. You will read about that story below.
Though a small country, and not a bucket list destination for most of the travelers, Taiwan indeed has a lot to offer to visitors. We chose the below itinerary for our 4 days visit with a private taxi car and a very friendly English speaking driver for the entire trip.
1) Yehliu Geopark
2) Shifen
3 ) Jiufen
4) Yangmingshan National Park
5) Yingge District (For ceramics)
6) Wulai Hot springs
7) Lungshan Temple
8) National Palace Museum
9) Chiang kai-shek Memorial Hall
10) Taipei 101
11) Night Markets and Massages
12) QingJing Farm
13) Sun Moon Lake
14) Tattoo parlour
Yehliu Geopark is a beautiful sea side park with several natural rock formation which are shaped like mushrooms. We grabbed our cup of bubble tea (special Taiwanese tea with tapioca bubbles in tea - very interesting) for a walk around the park. The highlight of the park is the Queen Nefertiti rock, which resembles the Egyptian Queen.
It was interesting to see the cemeteries in Taipei which are way different from what we usually see. These look more or less like a house on its own.

We headed to Shifen to view the waterfall and then the much awaited lantern release. It was particularly interesting for our Son, who wrote many of his wishes on the lantern. From Shifen, we then drove to Jiufen - a sea side mountain area with beautiful views of the valley, temples, tea shops, souvenirs, local Taiwanese food etc. We loved the Mango Snowflake dessert.
In the evening, we visited a tattoo parlor where we had taken prior appointment. This was a long time dream come true. It was an almost 2-3 hours job to finish the work for both of us.
The next morning was a drive to Yangmingshan National Park, where we can find volcanoes and hot springs. The weather was awesome - foggy and misty with a bit of drizzle for a beautiful start of the day. We walked around the mountain trails to the Juansi waterfalls and back and then drove to Yingge. This is paradise for Taiwanese ceramics. You get beautiful tea sets, vases, pots and what not. This place is highly recommended for shopping. After an hour and a half of shopping we headed for a relaxing natural thermal spring water dip at Wulai resort. It was a fantastic experience. The place was well arranged with indoor bath tub that fills with the hot water from the springs for you to enjoy a dip and relax well.
The next day, after breakfast at a local Taiwanese restaurant, we explored the city of Taipei. 7) Lungshan Temple, National Palace Museum, Chiang kai-shek Memorial Hall, Taipei 101. The evening was dedicated to electronics shopping, night markets and foot massages to end a tiring day.
The next day was a long drive to QingJing Farm and Sun and Moon Lake. As we reached the farm, it gave more of a Europe like feel with mountains, meadows, mist and fog all around with lot of sheep everywhere. It is a very beautiful place and children will definitely enjoy
A visit to Far East will be incomplete without tasting the local cuisine. Our driver took us to authentic Taiwanese restaurants and helped us with a variety of vegetarian dishes and they were indeed yummy. Below section is dedicated to the food we ate and enjoyed in Taiwan, and also those which we could only see and enjoy :)
