Sun Rise @ Bose Peak, Kolukumalai

A drive to the beautiful Munnar and Suryanelli to explore the charm of the Western Ghats. It sounds interesting, right? Then here’s my word, it’s absolutely worth it. We started off early from Thrissur on a Saturday morning and visited two beautiful temples near Perumbavoor on our way.
Iringol kavu
This old Bhagwati temple is nestled within a lush green forest. It’s charming, divine and peaceful.
Kallil Bhagavathi temple
This is a unique cave temple and has a huge rock as its roof. The morning temple vibes and the picturesque atmosphere is amazing .
After visiting these two amazingly beautiful temples, we had our breakfast and set off towards Suryanelli, where our campsite was located. We booked this camping and trekking with Teddys Treks and Trails. We parked our car almost a kilometre away from the campsite. The staff from Teddys had come to pick us and we walked to the campsite along with them.
It started raining and gradually the weather got worse with heavy downpours for around 2 hours. Then the weather started to get better and then we walked up to the nearby peaks to enjoy the views. We got to see the beautiful Neelakurinji flowers, which blooms once in 12 years!
After our evening walk, we returned to the campsite. We enjoyed some black tea and strolled around the property to take in the views of the valley. That night, we gathered around a campfire and then had dinner before settling into our cozy camp for a restful sleep.
The next morning, we woke up around 3:30 am, got ready, and walked to the parking area. The jeeps were waiting to take us to the Kolukkumalai sunrise point. While most guests chose Kolukkumalai, we opted for Bose Peak, which required an additional permit and extra payment to the jeep driver. Honestly, Kolukkumalai is very touristy and crowded, whereas Bose Peak is less crowded, possibly due to the extra cost and the trek needed to reach it.
After dropping off others at the Kolukkumalai sunrise point, our driver took us to the Bose Peak parking area. We then trekked up to the top of the peak.
The sunrise was indescribably beautiful. A vast bed of clouds lay beneath on one side, and the golden rays of the sun cast a magical glow over the surrounding valleys and peaks.
After having a great time at the peak, we hiked down to the parking area where our jeep driver awaited us. We drove back to Kolukkumalai sunrise point to pick up others, then headed to the tea garden where we bought some tea dust, chocolates, and other items before returning to the campsite.
At the campsite, we freshened up, had breakfast, and checked out, leaving with wonderful memories as we headed back home.
